BERNAMA – No More “Instant Noodle” Projects During Elections – Najib
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak said today the Barisan Nasional (BN) will do away with the practice of announcing “instant noodle” projects during elections.
Instead, he said, development programmes and projects would be planned in a holistic manner and implemented based on the people’s needs.
“This ‘instant noodle’ approach where we see tractors coming in during elections will be done away with… we won’t be doing this in Bukit Gantang (parliamentary by-election) although we will still be implementing development projects,” he said at the meet-the-people session at Taman Kota Jaya, Simpang, near here.
Najib said, “we should change the approach where all sorts of projects are approved during elections like paving of roads, cleaning up the surroundings and all sorts of ‘instant noodle’ projects… we will implement what we can implement.”
Najib, who is Perak BN chairman, also said that the Bukit Gantang voters could give the signal whether they want changes in their area.
He said BN would give attention based on the mandate shown by the people.
“If they vote for the BN, they will certainly see more development coming in,” he said, adding that the government would continue to implement projects in line with the government’s long-term development plan.He said the BN government was implementing projects based on the “One Malaysia” concept so that all section of the society would get to benefit from the programmes.
Najib also announced that former Bukit Gantang Umno information chief, Ismail Saffian, had been chosed as the BN candidate for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary by-election on April 7.
The by-election is called following the death of incumbent member of Parliament, Roslan Shaharum of PAS, on Feb 9 due to a heart attack.
The nomination day is on March 29.
On the prolonged political uncertainty in Perak, Najib said, the situation would not happen if the opposition pact adhered to the Perak State Constitution.
He said PAS, DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) should wait for the court ruling on who should be the rightful menteri besar of Perak.
“BN has no doubt that Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir is the legitimate menteri besar and his executive council is the legitimate state executive council.
“Let the court decide… let’s not resort to rioting or lying on the road,” he said.
Najib said the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, had consented to the appointment of Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as the menteri besar following the 12th general election and the same principle was repeated when he consented to the formation of the BN state government.
Also present at the event, which was attended by about 5,000 people, were Dr Zambry, Umno vice-presidents Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam and Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib.
