Malaysians disagree with Khir Toyo, want Elizabeth Wong to stay

Signature drive launched to reject rep’s resignation

Residents and non-governmental organisations have voiced support for Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong and insist that she stay their representative and state executive councillor.

Friends of Kota Damansara chairman Mah Weng Kwai said the residents were not disturbed by the still and moving images of Wong’s private life and expressed their faith in her to stay on with her posts.

“We condemn in strongest term the unscrupulous invasion of Wong’s private life through unauthorised photographing, stealing and disseminating of her personal data,” he said as he read out a statement.
All for Wong: Residents showing their support for Wong at the launch of the signature drive at Wong’s service centre in Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya, Sunday.

Mah was speaking at the launch of a signature drive to reject Wong’s resignation, organised by the Coalition of Residents Associations in Bukit Lanjan at her service centre in Bandar Utama here yesterday.

The coalition aims to collect 10,000 signatures by tomorrow and plans to hand over the petition to the Sultan of Selangor through Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

Mah urged PKR and Pakatan Rakyat to honour their bond and responsibility to Bukit Lanjan residents by respecting the will of those who have elected Wong.

Civil Society Initiative for Parliamentary Reform convenor Wong Chin Huat said: “We want Wong for her public service and not for her private life.”

Malaysian Nature Society vice-president Jeffrey Phang said he was happy with Wong’s efforts in highlighting environmental issues concerning the Kota Damansara forest.

“She has helped us a lot and worked very hard to service each of her constituent’s requests,” he said.

Selangor Community Awareness Society (Empower) president Maria Chin Abdullah said the gutter politics that caused Wong to offer her resignation was unacceptable.
