WITH reference to Datuk Zaid Ibrahim’s recent views on race, I salute him for his courage in expressing his honest beliefs in a public forum. In a ‘toe-the-line’ environment currently existing in Malaysia, such a quality is in very short supply.
Malays are no less capable than anyone and do not need the crutch of dependency on handouts for survival. Protectionism is to blame for Malaysia’s loss of competitiveness.
Continued protectionism, be it of an economy or sectional interests, is disastrous in the long run. Real success can only be sustained by rising through merit and ability, not by keeping others down.
