As a Muslim, I am constantly amazed at the pettiness of our so-called religious leaders. Isn’t there more pressing issues to pursue and settle than to worry about whether yoga will turn a Muslim into a Hindu? I suppose the council will go after Tai Chi and Qi Gong practitioners next.
It would appear to me that the council has not much confidence in the faith of our Muslims that all sorts of fatwa and edicts have to be issued to keep our faith in check.
When I was growing up we never had any such concerns and I believe that we were, and still are, good Muslims.
We should have confidence in our own religious faith.
Many of my non-Muslim friends have opined that it appears as if we, Muslims, have to be controlled to stick to the straight and narrow.
I am afraid that I have to agree with them.
I wish to remind the religious authorities that Allah gave us the power of reasoning to help us maintain our faith.
We will do so voluntarily and willingly and do not need to be coerced.
So, can the council please spend more time on more immediate relevant issues!
DR ABED ONN,
Religious leaders urged to focus on more pressing issues, besides tomboy and yoga
