Proton Profit Rises on Income From Government Fund

 

Proton Holdings Bhd., the state-owned Malaysian carmaker that scrapped alliance talks with Volkswagen AG, said fourth-quarter profit rose after it booked income from a government fund to help make new models.

Net income in the three months ended March 31 jumped to 236.4 million ringgit ($73 million), or 43 sen a share, from 915,000 ringgit, or 0.2 sen, a year earlier, Proton said in a release today. Profit included a 194 million-ringgit research and development grant from the government.
