Some 2.5 million new jobs in various sectors will be created by 2010, thanks to the strong economic growth and increased demand for skilled workers.
Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn said one of the contributing factors was the Government’s move to develop the food and agriculture sector.

I will talk to the private sector on this and I hope this demand for Mandarin proficiency when employing new workers will stop.
Language proficiency can be provided as part of an in-house programme for employees and need not be for Mandarin only.
Employees should also be conversant in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
