Backdoor deals slammed

…a former Bar Council president said political crossovers was a better option than to permit a “train load of greater wrongs to steam-roll over an entire population.”

Former Bar Council chairman Yeo Yang Poh, in a recent commentary in the Malaysian Bar website, said that as the law stood, there was no legal impediment to MPs crossing to different political parties or platform.

As for the issue of morality, Yeo said in his article that an MP had a duty to save the nation from “an unusual crisis of dangerous disregard of the rakyat’s interest.”

“I for one, would not come down like a ton of bricks on political crossovers, when failing which, the reality is that much more grievous and immoral acts that have oppressed Malaysians for decades will continue for God knows how long more,” he wrote.
