Malaysian city bans lipstick for Muslim women - CNN.com

Authorities in a northern Malaysian city have forbidden Muslim women from wearing bright lipstick and noisy high-heeled shoes, saying the directive is intended to prevent sexual assaults and “illicit sex.”
Kota Baru already has a directive calling for Muslim women to wear non-transparent headscarves.

Kota Baru already has a directive calling for Muslim women to wear non-transparent headscarves.

The national news agency, Bernama, said the directive was issued by the municipal council of Kota Baru and is aimed toward Muslim women working in restaurants and other businesses in the city. It said the ban will safeguard the morals and dignity of the women as well as thwart rape.

“It states that Muslim women are forbidden to wear thick make-up, like bright colored lipstick and high-heeled shoes that gave a tapping sound,” the news agency said.

“For those who insist on wearing high heel shoes, they can do so but with rubber heels.”

Anyone not following the regulations can be fined up to 500 ringgit ($153), Bernama said.

CNN Quoted~
The coalition also won 82 of 222 parliamentary seats .

Wrong CNN, 81 seats- the seat won by Independent Ibrahim Ali does not count…..sorry couldnt help myself.

OK now back to the Issue that CNN sensationalised “Malaysian city bans lipstick for Muslim women”
PAS won 1,140,676 popular votes, thats14%, and 23 seats, thats 10% of parliament.
We need to understand on a Federal level no party can win 2/3rds on its own
which is a whopping 148 seats.
So to all the chicken littles crying the sky is falling down, it is not going to happen on the Federal level.

In Kelantan PAS won 37 of the 45 state assembly seats PKR 1 and the rest BN, that means they control a whopping 82% of Kelantan far more that 2/3rds which is 66.66 %.
So they are free to enact Municipal laws which include those touching on public decorum, but all they can do is fine.
They however cannot enact criminal or hudud laws, here Federal laws override, for this they need at least 148 parliamentary seats , even UMNO at the height of their popularity never had such a mandate.
So even if they win 100% of the seats in Kelantan they cannot implement hudud laws there.

GE12 was different in a sense that it was the first time many non-Muslims voted nationwide wherever PAS challenged BN and yet they won only 14% of the popular vote.

So rest easy, the chances of this happening is almost zilch, about the same chance as Iran has of becoming a Catholic country.

We must respect that they have a strong mandate in Kelantan ,they have already said that PAS cannot do the same in states it co-rules with other Pakatan members.
So it is up to the Kelantanese as they are the ones who gave PAS the huge mandate, if they don’t like it the can show it at the ballot box come next elections.that is how democracy works
Now we would not like Kelantanese to lambast what they percieve as our “hedonistic” lifestyle .
Judge not lest ye be judged.

So before lambasting PAS any further please consider this for a moment.
