5 esteemed councillors

Posted by omong on November 9, 2006

Five Klang Municipal Council (MPK) councillor-designates would have to settle their various misdemeanours before being sworn in later this month.

They are Klang Umno division acting youth chief Zainuri Zakaria, Kapar Umno division secretary Samak Ahmad, Klang Umno division vice-chairman Nasaruddin M. Zin, Klang MIC division chief Alex Thiagarasan Palaniaya and Kapar MCA Youth chief Datuk Song Kee Chai.

Zainuri, the son of embattled veteran politician Datuk Zakaria Md Deros, was singled out for operating the DZ Satay House in Pandamaran illegally on government land.

Samak, who had not paid the annual assessment for his house this year, said: “My cousins and I are staying in several houses built on a single plot of land in Rantau Panjang.

“I have not seen the latest assessment bill and I believe it may have been sent to the house of one of my cousins. I am going to visit all my cousins to look for the bill.

“I know I owe MPK about RM180 and have informed the officer there that I would be paying up soon.”

Nasaruddin, who had not submitted the building plan for renovations on his corner-lot double-storey house, said: “The renovation for my house in Taman Sri Andalas was done five years ago. It is difficult for me to answer why I didn’t submit the building plan.

“I submitted the plan yesterday morning and paid RM1,222 in submission fee. The head of MPK’s building department said he would inform me how much I would be fined.”

Alex, who had not paid assessment for his four-storey shoplot for the last two years, said: “I have not paid assessment for my four-storey shoplot in Pulau Indah for last year and this year only.

“My registered address is in Shah Alam and the assessment bill may not have reached me because of this.

“I have met the MPK secretary and informed him that I would pay the RM3,000 owed (today).”

Song, who had not submitted building plans for renovations done on his house as well as factory, said: “The renovations to the car porch and kitchen of my house in Taman Sri Sentosa was done by the previous owner and I have been living there only since 2003.

“However, I submitted the plans to MPK (on Tuesday) and paid the RM400 plan submission fee. I will also be submitting the building plan for the renovations done on my corner-lot factory at Sungai Rasau industrial area, which I have been occupying since 1991 (today).”

When contacted, Zainuri declined comment.
