UPM Etnic Relations book propagates government ideology and contains factual errors
An emergency motion on the controversial textbook was submitted to the Dewan
Rakyat speaker yesterday by Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Bandar Kuching).
“Textbooks which are designed for an important subject like this should be
professional and contain reliable facts,” he read the motion in a press
conference in Parliament lobby.
He said universities should not be used by the government to propagate its
ideology.
Chong also pointed out another factual error in the book, under the chapter
Religious Freedom and Islam Hadhari.
That chapter stated that the Federal Constitution allowed freedom of
religious practice. However, it also stated wrongly that there is a prohibition
on the preaching of religions, other than Islam, to non-Muslims
